A Poetic Warning
(In the voice of Christina Curtis – 7th Grader)
by Brod Bagert
My life is a tailgate party,
someone is always in my face,
which is why I cherish the intimacy…the solitude…
the impregnable privacy of my personal diary.
This is what I wrote last night:
When first he looked into my eyes,
my heart began to sing.
The smiling face of Ethan Webb
turns winter into spring
That was last night, and this morning,
I discovered my impregnable fortress
had been invaded by my little brother
who left me this message:
My sister’s sweet on Ethan Webb
as everybody knows,
but Ethan Webb has stinky feet
and boogers in his nose.
My personal diary,
violated by that incorrigible child.
So again, pen in hand, I invoke the muse,
this time in an act of warning.
Pay attention, stinky brother,
to what I have to say:
if you ever touch this book again
YOUR HIDE IS GOING TO PAY!
So here’s another warning,
and this time it’s for you.
I learned this one the hard way
which is how I know it’s true.
If you think your diary’s private,
you aren’t very clever,
cause those secrets in your diary
will never stay secret forever.
